In extreme cases, the fuse can continue to arc internally, allowing current to keep flowing and creating a serious fire risk.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eQuality MEGA fuses typically have a maximum interrupting capacity of around \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e2,000–2,500A\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, which is significantly lower than the potential short-circuit current available from a lithium battery.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWon’t my lithium battery’s BMS protect me?\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA high-quality BMS can protect against smaller over-current events and some short circuits.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHowever, in a severe direct short circuit, the current can be high enough to damage the MOSFETs inside the BMS.
